Liquid Lounge

ALL THINGS must change. Back in the '80s, the downtown San Jose punks had Marsugi's and the Laundry Works, and the yuppies had D.B. Cooper's and Paradise Beach. Marsugi's morphed into Agenda; the Laundry Works became Club St. John, Hamburger Mary's, Club Ecco and now Blue Tattoo; D.B. Cooper's is A.P. Stump's; and now, the one-time fern bar Paradise Beach, after its most recent life as Club Wild, reopens Sept. 19 as Liquid Lounge.
Eric DiBlasi, who also owns Blue Tattoo down the street, took over the property and gutted it for the past six weeks. He ripped everything out, remodeled the bathrooms and the bars, put in all new flooring, red and black vinyl wall covers, a new sound system, redid the front of the building and instructed his staff about the importance of courtesy.
"I want people to have a good experience, good customer service, no hassles," he says. "I want to create a nice vibe that when you leave there you enjoyed yourself and got your money's worth. It's so important. People don't remember when they were treated good, but they will remember if they were treated bad."
Among the other improvements: five full bars, two rooms and multiple dance floors, an improved facade. Outside, a smoking area with bar and tent was erected. DJs will spin hip-hop and R&B, but also experiment with salsa. Opening night this weekend features DJs J Boogie, Architect and Rick Lee.
