Hours: Fri-Sat, 9pm-1:30am

ANYBODY WHO'S lined up along South Second Street to get inside the Improv, especially for the late show, gets a special free preshow before they go inside. The action happening across the street on the open-air patio area of San Jose Bar & Grill provides enough people-watching fun to inspire the question: What the heck are they putting in drinks over there? Red Bull? Spanish Fly?

The small but convivial bar has been on and popping since it opened last year. SJB&G has created a night life world of its own filled with young, good-looking people sweating each other and yelling over the pop music and ESPN. With the arrival of the adjacent Tres Gringos cantina, the decibel level has doubled. Tres Gringos opens up an extra area to hang out and allow more elbow room. There's a large bar area and some tables, food service, televisions and circular fans. The good thing is that it's not a sausage party; Tres Gringos attracts equal amounts of guys and girls going wild. Sometimes, you just want to fast-forward to the good parts, and Tres Gringos does just that.
