The fall season brings new releases

THE FALL ALBUM BLITZ is starting to hit with releases by Soulfly, AFI, Less Than Jake, Slash's Snakepit, Pennywise, Andy Summers, Perry Farrell, Bob Weir and RatDog and Black Eyed Peas hitting store shelves last Tuesday. While Green Day's Warning (Oct. 3) may be the most anticipated new album of the year, others of interest include Radiohead's Kid A, the Cult's The Best of Rare Cult, Badly Drawn Boy's The Hour of Bewilderbeast, Prodigy's H.N.I.C., Slaves on Dope's Inches From the Mainline and Enuff Z'Nuff's Ten (all Oct. 3); Orgy's Vapor Transmissions, the Wallflowers' Breach, Professional Murder Music's self-titled, Jello Biafra's Become the Media, Cherry Poppin' Daddies' Soul Caddy, Swingin' Utters' self-titled, the Tubes' Live Hits Album and Deke Dickerson's Rhyme, Rhythm & Truth (Oct. 10); Limp Bizkit's Chocolate Starfish and the Hot Dog Flavored Water, Squirrel Nut Zippers' Bedlam Ballroom and Dash Crofts' Today (Oct. 17); P.J. Harvey's Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea and J. Mascis + the Fog's More Light (Oct. 24); and the Little Nicky soundtrack (featuring music by Insolence) and Godsmack's Awake (Oct. 31). Other albums on the way include Everclear's Songs From an American Movie, Vol. Two: Good Time for a Bad Attitude, Marilyn Manson's Holy Wood: In the Shadow of the Valley of Death and Blink 182's The Mark, Tom and Travis Show, as well as new offerings by Offspring, Puya and Samiam.
The 11th annual Reggae in the Park will be held Oct. 7-8, 11am-6pm in Sharon Meadow in Golden Gate Park. This year's event features performances by Burning Spear, Pato Banton and the Reggae Revolution, Shinehead and Detour Posse on Oct. 7, and Third World, Mutabarunka, the Skatalites and Amandla Poets on Oct. 8. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Global Exchange, a human rights organization. Tickets are $17 advance/$20 gate and are available through BASS.
The Bridge School benefit will be held Oct. 28-29 at Shoreline Amphitheatre. The lineup features acoustic performances by founder Neil Young, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Dave Matthews Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Beck, Foo Fighters and Tegan and Sara. Tickets are $38 general admission/$48 reserved; they are on sale now and are available through Ticketmaster.
There are some really promising club shows coming up in San Francisco, including MxPx Sept. 28 at Slim's; Storm, Inc. (formerly Storm and Her Dirty Mouth), Sept. 29 at the Great American Music Hall; Samiam, Oct. 1 at Bottom of the Hill; Venus Bleeding, Oct. 1 at Slim's; Sixteen Horsepower, Oct. 4 at the Great American Music Hall; Dynamite Hack and Marvelous 3, Oct. 4 at Slim's; The The, Oct. 5 at Slim's; Colonel Les Claypool's Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, Oct. 8-9 at the Great American Music Hall; and J. Mascis + the Fog, Nov. 13-14 at Slim's.
Stone Temple Pilots, Godsmack and Disturbed are coming to the SJSU Event Center Nov. 6. ... No Use for a Name, Pulley, One Man Army and HBA are scheduled to perform at Palookaville Nov. 16, and NUFAN will be at Slim's Nov. 17. ... Rumor has it Homegrown may be coming through the South Bay in early November. ... The Beastie Boys/Rage Against the Machine tour that was initially postponed has been officially canceled.
