Metro's Club of the Week

Clandestine

Wednesday nights at Johnny V's; 31 E. Santa Clara St., San Jose; 408.947.8470; www.clubclandestine.com

By Todd Inoue

THE POPULARITY of drum 'n' bass seems to rise and fall like the stock market. Some nights are packed with folks getting a sweat on, other times it's just background music at coffee shops and sushi bars. Local D+B night Clandestine keeps true to the genre's roots, inviting guest DJs in and giving San Jose club dwellers a subterranean pedicure. Clandestine spreads accelerated funk over two rooms--drum 'n' bass in the main room, and dancehall and hip-hop in the second. Resident DJs and MCs Fenix, Clark Kent, Aphelion, Influe3nz, Stealth, MC Fish, Ravenous, Know1 and the all-knowing DJ Yo Momma create beatscapes of the future today. And guess what? The whole thing is free.
