[whitespace] 5 Reasons to Love

Half Moon Bay

THERE ARE more reasons than pumpkins to visit Half Moon Bay. The big-wave season is underway at Maverick's. Nearby open-space preserves offer great hiking and mountain biking. And the city offers some good food, from inexpensive taquerias to destination restaurants.

Flying Fish Grill Fish tacos are the star at this tiny restaurant at Highway 92 and Main Street. 99 San Mateo Rd. (Highway 92). 650.712.1125.

OK, so it's located in Princeton near the harbor, not in Half Moon Bay, but this restaurant serves great beers, burgers, salads, fish tacos and other items in an inviting atmosphere that's a favorite of parents with kids in tow. Live music, too. (Closed for remodel until Nov. 26). 390 Capistrano Rd., Princeton. 650.728.2739.

Cetrella Bistro and Cafe This Main Street head-turner attracts locals and visitors with its superb Mediterranean food and lively bar. Excellent wine list and love that big fireplace, too. 845 Main St. 650.726.4090.
