Prince of the City SJSU Event Center set to host Prince's Hit N' Run Tour 2000 this Friday By Sarah Quelland AS WE ANNOUNCED last week, Prince is holding a special concert this Friday (Dec. 8) at the SJSU Event Center. The stop is part of the artist's "Hit N' Run Tour 2000." Tickets are $65, limited to four per person and available at the Event Center box office or BASS/Tickets.com outlets. Downtown San Jose was bustling last Friday (Dec. 1) as KSJO morning hosts Lamont & Tonelli held a special signing at the Usual for their 2001 bikini babes calendar; popular jazz-funk band Karl Denson's Tiny Universe jammed to a packed house at Agenda Lounge; and Filibuster, Floppy Rods, Frank Jordan and Major Liegue took the stage at the Cactus Club. Triple Seven is throwing its second "Triple Seven's Naughty Nite Out" bash Thursday (Dec. 7) at the Usual. This time out, the band has Carpet Room, which was voted one of the best unsigned bands by Metro readers, kicking off the night. Triple Seven will also screen its video for "Been Around." Other frills include bikini dancers, art by Matteo in the lounge, and character artist Wolfgang. The big news, however, is that the king of funk, Mr. George Clinton, might stop by to check out the band. Tickets are $5, and the doors open at 8:30pm. ... Starting in January, the Usual will start holding live rock shows on Saturday nights. Titled "Big Rock Show," the focus of the night will be on local and national bands, and new booker Jimmy Arceneaux is hinting at some surprises comparable to those he delivered at the Edge (Nine Inch Nails, Midnight Oil, et al.). Swarm is headlining the Paradise Lounge in San Francisco next Friday (Dec. 15). The band is promising special guests, and odds are it will deliver. In mid-November, when Swarm played Hobie's Roadhouse in Concord, Alice in Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell jumped onstage with the San Francisco rockers for a cover of AC/DC's "If You Want Blood (You've Got It)." Rumor has it, that was a warm-up show for the Paradise Lounge gig. Tickets are $8, and the venue is 21-and-older. Manmade God is heading into the Plant Recording Studios in Sausalito (where Metallica, Fleetwood Mac and Deftones have recorded) on Friday (Dec. 8) where they will record and mix a new demo. The band is working with producer Brian Dobbs who has worked with bands like Metallica, AC/DC and Mötley Crüe. It plans to release the new recording in early January. The Cactus Club is holding its annual Dysfunctional Family X-Mas Dec. 22-23. On Friday (Dec. 22) catch Krenshaw, Reaction 31, Shortie, Breach, Drift, Mr. Roper and Setacide (former Salmon drummer Pat Ruiz's new project). On Saturday (Dec. 23), the Forgotten, Outtaline, HBA, Moodfrye, Monkey and Los Bastardos are scheduled to perform. Though its name showed up on early announcements, the Odd Numbers will not be able to participate. San Jose State University professor of television, radio, film and theater Babak Sarrafan has won the Award of Excellence at the 2000 Joey competition, for directing and producing Palo Alto girl group the Donnas' music video for "Skintight." This is the second year in a row that Sarrafan has been honored.
