MORE OFTEN THAN not, the better the view a restaurant has the worse the food. Restaurants figure if you're happy gazing out the window at the ocean or city lights you won't focus as much on the food. But Silicon Valley boasts a few restaurants where the view enhances the food, or maybe it's the other way around. In any case, here are five restaurants with menus to match the scenery.
Bella Vista Since 1927, this Skyline Boulevard restaurant has drawn diners to both its classic French fare and its commanding South Bay views. The tuxedo-clad waiters are pretty snazzy, too. 13451 Skyline Blvd., Woodside. 650.851.1229.
Le Foret It can be hard to find this San Jose restaurant, but the exquisite French-California food and the views of Alamitos Creek are worth it. 21747 Bertram Rd., San Jose. 408.997.3458.
Mt. Hamilton Grandview Classic food best described as "cowboy continental" is served with spectacular Silicon Valley views from high atop Mt. Hamilton. 94 Mt. Hamilton Rd., San Jose. 408.251.8909.
Navio A window seat at this elegant restaurant offers one of the most superb views in the Bay Area. The restaurant, set inside the stunning Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay, overlooks the crashing Pacific Ocean and an emerald golf fairway. The seafood-centric menu is on a par with the scenery. 1 Miramontes Point Rd., Half Moon Bay. 650.712.7040.
Scott's Seafood San Jose OK, so it's only on the sixth floor, but downtown San Jose builds its restaurants on the ground floor, so Scott's city views are somewhat unique, and the food is consistently good. 185 Park Ave., San Jose. 408.971.1700.
