For Kim Shuck, poetry is more than just words. It’s a baring of her soul, of her ancestors and of the truths that she sees in the world around her. That’s one of many reasons why San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee named her the city’s 7th poet laureate in 2017. Born and raised in San Francisco, Shuck is a Cherokee Nation poet, author and teacher. She draws her work from Native American culture as well as contemporary life, and weaves ideas of wonder and loss with natural imagery and the occasional bit of humor. This Monday, the Los Gatos Library presents a very special afternoon with Shuck reading selected works with a Q&A on her art, process and more.
