Four months after launching their company Avidity Apparel, a DIY clothing line in San Jose, the owners are throwing a party this Friday to hopefully take their company to the next level and to show off their new summer line.
The owners at Avidity Apparel are bringing DJMAC to spin hip hop and dance music along with several bay area rappers, including 6-Pack, EKG, CArazed and Zeal.
So far, Avidity Apparel only sells shirts, but they plan to start selling tank tops, hoodies and caps in the near future. Their particular flavor of clothes is somewhere between hip hop threads and skater gear they call “underground skate apparel.” The shirts are currently available on the company’s website, at a couple of local businesses and at skate and hip hop events around town.
“It interested me because shirts are like art,” says Carlos Cabrera, Avidity Apparel co-owner. “We want to show people that hard work pays off. … Anything you really want to do, if you put your mind to it, you can make it happen. I’m from the inner city; the rougher side of San Jose. We are trying to leave a mark, regardless of where we came from.”
All the original designs will be available at the party, as well as their new summer line. The party is beach themed, so dress appropriately.
The party is at 842 S. 5th Street at 8pm. Admission is $8 with proceeds donated to the family of their recently departed friend, Daniel Olguin.
