Rachel Spung and the Soul Service is a local band illuminating the latent musical talent brimming below the surface of San Jose. Fronted by Rachel Spung and her soulful, sultry voice, the band also features Brandon Earley on guitar, Alonso Sanchez on bass and Daniel Williams on drums. Though they are only a four-piece outfit, they express a rich tapestry of sound that harkens back to the early golden age of soul while still retaining contemporary elements most akin to the likes of Amy Winehouse—a fabulous assemblage of musicians. With support from Interstellar Soundscapes, Rachel Spung and Soul Service will be playing Art Boutiki this weekend. (TM)
