In Rachmaninoff and the Tsar, real-life concerto pianist Hershey Felder expands his 28-year onstage career playing composer and pianist Sergei Rachmaninoff. Starring alongside him is British Italian actor Jonathan Silvestri as Tsar Nicholas II, the doomed ruler whose fall ushered in a communist regime lasting over a half-century. Though Rachmaninoff escaped to New York, his heart longed for the Tsarist Russia he knew as a young man, where his aristocratic family had been reduced to exile. The production features some of Rachmaninoff’s most famed pieces, including the Second Piano Concerto, the Paganini Variations, preludes and other symphonic selections.
