HOWEVER one feels about the pros and cons of Record Store Day, it’s working. Every one of the RSD events is bringing music fans back into local independent stores, and one shop reported that its store drew more people than any single day in its history earlier this year. One of the biggest draws is the limited, exclusive releases, and for RSD Black Friday (Nov. 25), artists from the Beastie Boys—who are putting out a limited edition of Hot Sauce Committee Part Two that includes a 60-page hardbound book—to Kings of Leon to Wilco are dropping new stuff. Local participants include Streetlight Records, who are carrying exclusive releases and taking 25 percent off used items and On the Corner Music, which will have no tax all day and a selection of 50-cent used records.
