.San Jose screening of “Wasted Dreams: A Bay Area Skateboarding Film”

The government might as well issue a skateboard to every Californian at birth, or at least by their teenage years, as everyone has one. Sometimes stars will break through the masses, though, especially in the digital age. Justin Colvin and Jake Wolter are two such personalities; these local shredders have combined their skating prowess with their flare for filmmaking to produce Wasted Dreams: A Bay Area Skateboarding Film starring themselves and many of their friends. Set in the concrete jungles of the Bay, this gritty documentary exudes joy.

Addie Mahmassani is a poet based in Santa Cruz. She holds a PhD in American Studies from Rutgers University-Newark and is currently an MFA student in creative writing at San Jose State University. There, she is a Teaching Associate as well as the lead poetry editor of Reed Magazine, California's oldest literary journal. She also surfs, sings and loves a part-sheepdog named Lou.
