.SoFA Street Fair: Second Spring Edition

The second annual spring edition of the SoFA Street Fair takes over San Jose’s arts district this weekend—bringing deluge of art, music and performance to an already packed weekend.
As dedicated cosplayers descend on the final day of Silicon Valley Comic Con at the McEnery Convention Center, local music and art fans will be feasting on a buffet of opera, alt-rock, wrestling, beer, food and much more in the SoFA District.
Event organizer Fil Maresca says he is excited to for the second spring installment of his recently “reupholstered” SoFA Street Fair. The celebration, which was big in the ’90s, took more than 10 years off, before Maresca resurrected it in 2014.
Now that the second spring event has come, Maresca says he feels he has hit a milestone. “We’ve now gone full cycle and it’s officially every six months.”
Sunday’s event marks a few other firsts for the SoFA Street Fair. For the first time, the festival features two sponsored stages: San Jose medical marijuana dispensary Haze is sponsoring one, while Live and Local SJ supports another.
Also, there are a few new venues on the block. The recently opened Forager is hosting the Content Magazine-curated stage. SoFA Street Fair used the Forager space last fall, but now the former location of South First Billiards is officially open to the public. And the San Jose Museum of Quilts & Textiles will be hosting live entertainment.
On top of all that, local singer-songwriters Chris Reed and Socorra have put together a day-long series of short cover-band sets—each dedicated to a different artists from the ’90s. There are tributes to Hootie & The Blowfish, No Doubt, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Incubus and Stone Temple Pilots.
The festival will also feature sets from some of San Jose’s best musicians across all genres — including Monkey, Cola, Sweet HayaH, Talky Tina, The Gentle Cycle and Andrew Bigs.
