Sofía Gallisá Muriente’s film Celaje (Cloudscape) intertwines the aftermath of natural disasters with Puerto Rico’s colonial legacy. Muriente’s poignant elegy, featuring home movies and post-Hurricane Maria footage, explores impermanence through degrading film stock—a metaphor for the tropical climate’s impact on historical remnants. Cloudscape seamlessly blends Super 8 and 16mm imagery, hand development, and a mesmerizing original score by José Iván Lebrón Moreira. As the final part of the Assimilate & Destroy series, it captures the ghostly dance of memories and the demise of the colonial project in Puerto Rico.
