Now that the holidays are over and so are those irritating Christmas songs, it’s time to celebrate the new year with a different kind of music. [Sounds Like] You Had to be There ’25 gathers nine singers, bands and DJs—some appearing in the Bay Area for the first time—to perform electronica music blended with rock, industrial, shoegaze, folk and even metal. The festival’s lineup features Technopagan, Ada Rook, Kraus, Somewhere Special, acloudyskye, Death’s Dynamic Shroud and High Sunn. Highlights include headliner Lowertown, the NY/Atlanta duo of Olivia Osby and Avshalom Weinberg, and Los Thuthanaka’s siblings Chuquimamani-Condori and Joshua Chuquimia Crampton from Sacramento, who blend indigenous Andean music with psychedelic rock.
