In this exhibition, 33 Asian diasporic artists reckon with the spiritual and spectral. Inspired by small devotional structures in Thailand that provide shelter for the supernatural, Spirit Houses asks what it means to “speak to ghosts, inhabit haunted spaces, be reincarnated or enter different dimensions.” In their contemporary investigation, the artists draw from inherited knowledge and intuition. Spirit Houses is curated by the Asian American Art Initiative at the Cantor Arts Center and the Modern and Contemporary Art department. A scholarly catalog intended to introduce Asian American artists to broader audiences accompanies the exhibit, which will be available into January 2025.
