What’s more important, satisfying the human need to shake your ass or conveying a significant idea in your music.
Shaking your ass is very important, but there are many other joys in life. Those two things don’t have an inverse relationship and I don’t think their importance can be quantified or ranked. Sometimes you want to wriggle and shake and sometimes you want to be moved in other ways.
You’re one of those rare dudes that doesn’t care about much, yet cares deeply about everything. Is that a hindrance to making music or is that what music is made of?
I don’t know. There are a million pathways to a song. I just wander on my own little path and scuff up my shoes and eat fruit when I find a tree and bleed when I fall down and laugh when I’m not supposed to. Sometimes I like to think of all the songs people have made as some sort of grand atlas of all these crisscrossed pathways that people are hacking through the wilderness.
Will Sprott will perform at the Swedish American Hall in San Francisco, February 24th.
