.Starting Thursday, Spend Sunday in the Park With George

One of the most beloved paintings in art history, “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jette,” elicits many opinions and ideas from its viewers. For American composer Stephen Sondheim and author James Lapine, it inspired a fantastical Broadway production, which now finds its way to Los Altos for a four-week run. First opened in 1984, Sunday in the Park With George focuses on George, a fictionalized version of the painter, as he immerses himself into his work. The premiere won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1985, and has found much acclaim in the decades since (1991 Laurence Olivier Award, 2007 Olivier Outstanding Musical).
