.Sunny War Joins Hammer Theater’s Sunset Series

Sunny War’s current homebase in Venice Beach represents a hard-won battle. Originally from Nashville, this tenacious and skilled musician fought through substance abuse, homelessness and the often-thankless grind of the music industry to find a supportive artistic community in LA, where she also founded a chapter of Food Not Bombs. Her most recent album, Simple Syrup, finds her masterfully fusing punk and blues guitar stylings with the lyrical intricacies of traditional folk. Her team explains, “The pandemic has been a crucible for Sunny, burning away the parts of the old world that didn’t truly matter and leaving her with a new purpose.”
