For more than 40 years, Taj Mahal and his quintet have explored various avenues of music, combining elements of the funk, reggae, Cajun and jazz genres. In the process, they have made a lasting impact on the blues tradition. With bassist Bill Rich and percussionist Kester Smith, Taj Mahal and company have earned four Grammy awards (including ten total nominations) for their scope-widening experiments in blues rock. Taj himself counts a Blues Hall of Fame membership and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association among his many accolades. The Taj Mahal Quintet recently added guitarist and lap steel phenom Bobby Ingano to their roster, with talks of a steel drum player following suit.
