A decade and a half before EDM producers like Calvin Harris, Diplo and the late Avicii became the new rock stars, electronic music brushed fleetingly up against the mainstream. Groups like Basement Jaxx, Fatboy Slim, The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy uploaded their bombastic tunes to American airwaves in the mid- to late-’90s, riding a brief wave of interest in rave culture before being washed away by boy bands, rap metal and the garage rock revival. Vegas-bred duo The Crystal Method were a vital part of the big beat scene. Down to one member—Scott Kirkland—The Crystal Method continues to spin up dark, psychedelic beats. (NV)
