TO WIND up their month-long tour, San Jose’s Mumlers bring their ramshackle mixture of sweet soul and oddball indie folk to the Blank Club. After opening for ’90s beat trippers Morcheeba at several large venues like the Warfield in San Francisco and the Roseland Theater in Portland, the Mumlers made their first trek to the madness that is SxSW in Austin. Sources confirm that multi-instrumentalist Muller played bass for one song while sitting on a mechanical bull. The next morning, he ate a Texas-size breakfast taco. Armed now with percussionist/bassist Elias Reitz from amazing instrumentalists Gojogo, there’s a new and exciting element to the Mumlers’ already eclectic live sound. New tunes have seeped their way into the set, revealing songwriter Will Sprott is still turning out intricate yet hooky material. As this is the last show on the tour, they’ll either be playing like a well-oiled machine or like dance marathon contestants on their last legs. Either way, it’s always a blast to watch.
