.Toad the Wet Sprocket at the Guild Theatre

After Eric Idle starred in the cult classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail in 1975, he focused his comedic genius on the BBC2 sketch show Rutland Weekend Television. About a decade later in 1986, four Santa Barbara teens were watching reruns and lifted the program’s zany name of a parody rock band—Toad the Wet Sprocket—for their real band. The alt rock group saw success on the ’90s charts with moody singles like “Walk on the Ocean” and “All I Want.” When Idle heard a radio DJ say the band name one day, he says, “I nearly drove off the freeway.”
