Somewhere deep in the French Quarter is the ideal place to dance to Tom Rigney’s world-famous Cajun blues, but it’s incredibly hot and humid in Louisiana right now. Sunnyvale is in luck because the all-star musician is bringing his spicy tunes out of New Orleans and into the Bay. An award-winning fiddle player, Rigney specializes in Cajun two-step, low-down blues, boogie-woogie and good old-fashioned Nola funk. There’s no dance party like a Rigney dance party, where bits of the composer’s Irish and Eastern European heritage poke through. Everything else is welcome seasoning in the gumbo.

Addie Mahmassani is a poet based in Santa Cruz. She holds a PhD in American Studies from Rutgers University-Newark and is currently an MFA student in creative writing at San Jose State University. There, she is a Teaching Associate as well as the lead poetry editor of Reed Magazine, California's oldest literary journal. She also surfs, sings and loves a part-sheepdog named Lou.
