.Treasure Island Music Festival

NATIONAL ANTHEMS: The National play the festival on Sunday.

THE Treasure Island Music Festival’s two days have practically become like two separate festivals. Saturday is dedicated mostly to electronic acts, while Sunday leans toward guitar rock. Last year, that meant fans on Saturday climbing all over each other to see Girl Talk’s incredible set on the smaller stage and bouncing frantically to Passion Pit on the main stage, while Sunday mixed Bob Mould’s thinky-fuzzy guitar rock (including some Husker Du classics) with the Flaming Lips entering the main stage through a projection of a naked woman—you can guess where they came out, right? The organizers have a knack for catching acts just at the right time—last year they had Edward Sharpe just before “Home” completely blew up, and a lot of the crowd looked like they were wondering who the hell let this insane hippie cult onto the main stage. This year features two hip acts South Bay music fans will be familiar with—San Jose’s own Mumlers open on Sunday and frequent visitors (from Oakland) Wallpaper bring their campy twist on hip-hop to Saturday. LCD Soundsystem headlines on Saturday, supported by Dia Antwoord, Miike Snow, Little Dragon, Phantogram and more. On Sunday, Belle and Sebastian are preceded by the National, Broken Social Scene, Ra Ra Riot, Monotonix and the Sea and Cake.
