.(Un)familiar Takes the Everyday and Changes it Through Story

(Un)familiar, an exhibition guest-curated by Alyssarhaye Graciano at NUMU Los Gatos, starts with the familiar and makes it unfamiliar through collective artistic storytelling. The three featured artists, Jezrael Gandara, Kiana Honarmand and Chelsea Stewart, uplift their communities’ various perspectives and experiences through film, photography, sculpture and mixed-media collage. The artists’ intimate stories expand on a wider dialogue—an opportunity to relate to one another, familiar and unfamiliar, by uncovering biases and preconceptions around topics including women’s rights, mental health and the immigrant perspective.
