Volker Strifler might not be a household name, but he should be. When people do know him, it’s usually as “the other guitarist” in Robben Ford’s band, a reference that misses Strifler’s immense talent as a singer and guitar player. He began riffing the axe at 17; he sold his motorcycle for a guitar and never looked back. He and his buddies played rock music on US Army bases in Germany until a blues musician hired them to get to the roots of the music. That’s where Strifler discovered his love for the blues and has since worked with greats like B.B. King, Lowell Fulson and Elvin Bishop.
