This iconic play by Samuel Beckett features two characters who wait endlessly for a mysterious figure named Godot. The two-act tragicomedy, which premiered in a tiny Paris theater in 1953, has been described as a play “in which nothing happens, that yet keeps audiences glued to their seats.” Vladimir and Estragon do not know why they are on earth, yet their hope for some point in their existence reflects all who have settled into that rootless uncertainty. Humor and heartbreak revive the story again and again—or at least for 18 nights, as presented by Los Altos Stage Company.
