THIS SUMMER, 1.5 billion people are expected to watch the World Cup final. That's more than the Super Bowl and American Idol finales combined! The quadrennial tournament for world soccer supremacy begins on June 9, with the 9am PT kickoff between Germany vs. Costa Rica and then closes a month later with the championship match (my prediction: an all South American final between Brazil vs. Argentina) on July 9 at 10:30am on ABC.
After the first game, the matches then follow a more sane schedule than 2002 with first round games kicking off West Coast time at 6am, 9am and noon. If you're a morning person, this is good. If you have TiVo and a job, even better.
ABC, ESPN and ESPN2 are broadcasting all 64 games, all but ensuring that every sports bar will have some form of round ball on. But it's far more worthwhile to spend those nine hours with folks who place Ronaldinho over Barry Bonds. The following are establishments whose doors will be open bright and early to accommodate football fans. Many will run replays in the afternoon to keep everyone abreast of Spain and Portugal's inevitable collapse.
