The Candid Club puts the strip in strip mall. Well, sort of. Mostly, it's a good getaway bar with a comfortingly enclosed interior, courtesy of the lack of windows and a black mock-starry ceiling.

You'll find the oddball club surrounded largely by east Indian-named or -owned businesses, plus a brightly lit convenience store, in one of Sunnyvale's wholesome strip malls. Inside the club hangs a disco ball beside some black lights. Under those, a constant stream of shapely women in wee bikinis and giant platform heels dance/expertly writhe to their choice of music.

On a recent Friday, a modest after-work crowd lined the bar stools. These gentlemen were all watching some of the TVs, which were turned either to basketball or sports news. Except for a momentary monitoring of one woman's teeny-weeny pink polka-dot bikini, the men had made the curious decision to turn their backs on the near-naked performers.

Clearly, this isn't the only way to go. Everyone can make his or her own Sophie's choice at the Candid Club.

On a more alcoholic note, the weakness of the mixed drinks is counterbalanced by the fact that they're half off from 11am to 1pm on weekdays, and there's no cover charge.

If Your Bar Could Be Any Animal, What Would It Be?: Donkey--better not say why, says manager Richard.
