Missing in Action
Los Gatos--Police still have no clue to the whereabouts of 16-year-old Maribel Palafox, who vanished on Aug. 13. Witnesses say she picked up her check at El Burro in Campbell that day but never returned for her evening shift. Investigators think she may have headed for Mexico with two former El Burro employees. Police have no information as to whether she went willingly, although they believe she and one of the employees may have had a relationship. Palafox is 5 feet 2 inches tall, 130 pounds, with brown hair and eyes. Anyone with information may call police at 408/354-8600.

San Jose--From the front lines of the long and arduous fight for design review law comes this latest dispatch: San Jose's planning commission is encouraging the City Council to approve new height restrictions on houses. The proposed limits would reduce the height for a single-family home from 2 1/2 stories to two stories. Planning staffers also recommend that new homes, homes doubling in size, homes listed on the Historic Resources inventory, second-story additions and homes that are half torn down and rebuilt all be subjected to design review by committee.
