Taste the Music
New incarnation of the Edge
By Sarah Quelland
Jazz, rhythm & blues, and salsa lovers find kindred spirits in the wide-open setting of this new restaurant and nightclub. The building last housed the rock venue the Edge, but has been reborn as a classy joint for Silicon Valley's high-tech community to meet and mingle. Live bands play Thu-Sat in the restaurant while diners enjoy a scrumptious dinner (with menu highlights including the polenta triangle crostini, seared Maine scallops and grilled Angus beef rib steak) before checking out some of the highly regarded performers that visit the space on a weekly basis. (Of late, Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers, Ozomatli, John Lee Hooker Sr. and Poncho Sanchez have played.) The hangarlike main room's spaciousness is conducive to dancing to all types of music. The interior has a subtle blue and silver color scheme enriched by deep mahogany woods, stone and light oak floors. With a moderate dress code (no jeans, tennis shoes or sports attire), this is a place to dress to impress in comfortable elegance. On Friday and Saturday nights, however, the club remembers its rock roots a bit with DJ Reese spinning '70s, '80s, '90s and house music, and DJ Jimbo playing modern rock classics in the backroom every Saturday. The popular $2 Tuesdays are back as well.
