L ove 'em or hate 'em, elected officials can be great allies for the citizen unfamiliar with government bureaucracy. Politicians and their staffs can serve as bureaucratic tour-guides, and many are actually happy to help constituents navigate red tape. The challenge often is knowing which council member, county supervisor, assembly rep, or congresswoman has jurisdiction.
