[whitespace] Mudvayne Pissed-Off!

Pledge of Allegiance Tour

By Sarah Quelland

Whew! This is one pissed-off lineup. Spawned by rock's mutant hydra Slipknot and the wicked caravan System of a Down, the inaugural outing of this extreme metal festival includes war-painted aggressors Mudvayne (pictured), nihilistic German pyromaniacs Rammstein and raging newcomers No One. Both co-headliners are touring to promote new albums, with Slipknot's highly anticipated Iowa hitting shelves just last Tuesday (Aug. 28) and System's Toxicity slated for a Sept. 4 release. Still, if OzzFest was any indication, Mudvayne could well steal this show. With barking, sputtering vocals cast over complex waves of music that alternate between fury and melody and psychotic theatrics, this uncompromising band devours its crowds.

September 28; Compaq Center in San Jose.
