Sex Mob

By Shannon Stillman

Giving new breath to jazz, Sex Mob, led by N.Y. jazz genius on the slide trumpet (yes, slide trumpet) Steven Bernstein, pulls apart the sounds of popular music--artists such as Nirvana, James Brown, and the Dead--and reassembles them into true works of art. But they don't just stop there--Sex Mob's original scores span years of jazz interpretations, from Miles to the New York style from whence they came. The band is touring to promote its new album, Sex Mob Does James Bond. Opening for the band is Ordinary K.

September 5; 9pm; Fuel, San Jose; $8.
